Doctor’s Warning: Avoid Smart Meters

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), an “international association of physicians and other professionals interested in the clinical aspects of humans and their environment,” today released recommendations for patients with a broad array of illnesses and symptoms to avoid exposure to digital smart meters now being deployed internationally by governments and utilities.

The recommendation, which includes reference to 20 peer-reviewed studies showing biological harm from wireless technologies, indicates that patients with neurological, neurodegenerative diseases, genetic defects, cancer, and other conditions would benefit from avoiding pulsed RF radiation from smart meters. The recommendation says:

Refuse Smart Meters or Suffer the Consequences

And if you already have one remove it and install an analog meter yourself (preferably by your electrician). Watch video for advice.

the following excerpts from a document by Professor Olle Johansson, July 9, 2011

To: The California Public Utilities Commission,

I understand that you at present are concerned about the fast deployment of smart meters on homes in California, without adequate sharing of information with the public. I work as an associate professor at the Karolinska Institute; we are world-famous for our Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which we many times have awarded to your fellow countrymen and –women. I also uphold a professorship at the Royal Institute of Technology; it being closely tied to the Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry. For many years I have been studying health effects of wireless gadgets, such as Smart Meters. Wireless communication is now being implemented in our daily life in a very fast way. At the same time, it is becoming more and more obvious that the exposure to electromagnetic fields may result in highly unwanted health effects. This has been demonstrated in a very large number of studies and includes cellular DNA-damage (which may lead to an initiation of cancer as well as mutations that carry down generations), disruptions and alterations of cellular functions like increases in intracellular stimulatory pathways and calcium handling, disruption of tissue structures like the blood-brain barrier (which may allow toxins to enter the brain), impact on vessel and immune functions, and loss of fertility. It should be noted that we are not the only species at jeopardy, practically all animals and plants may be at stake.

Utilities Lying About Smart Meters

Utilities trying to foist Smart Meters on customers are taking lessons from the book 1984 on how to twist words so that truth becomes a lie. There is a growing movement to rebel against these new meters, not just for their radio frequency transmission bombarding your home, but for their ability to monitor and track usage and even ration your electric service (potential only, for now).

Here’s a sample of the new crafty language from one local utility, which is obviously aware of the growing rebellion. They must take their customers for fools. This is taken from the FAQ:

Can I opt out of getting a smart meter? Answer: “Installing smart meters is part of an upgrade to our electric system, so we are not offering old meters as an option anymore. no action is required by you.” Wait a minute! Not offering an old meter option is not the same as saying whether or not people can refuse the meter. They are weaseling out of answering the question.

What if I don’t want you to have more information about my power consumption? Answer: “Rest assured that you are in control of your power consumption. The information we will be able to access with the smart meters is no different than the information that we are able to access currently.” Again, they didn’t answer the question. It wasn’t about what information is accessed, but about whether we can stop them from accessing it.

Will there be any restrictions on how much power I can use? Answer: “The amount of electricity you consume is up to you.” True for now but they omitted to tell them that the meters can be used to shut down power remotely. That’s evasion by omission.

Do the radio waves that transmit the smart meter data pose a health risk? Answer: “No, they do not. The radio frequency (RF) power density from smart meters is minimal – about one one-thousandth as much as a typical cell phone. In fact, smart meters operate well below the Federal Communications Commission’s adopted Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) limits for radio transmitters of all types, smart meters included. Plus, the smart meters are on the outside of your home. And each smart meter is only ‘on’ for a minimal portion of the day – a maximum of 100 seconds total – to regularly communicate your energy consumption data.”

San Francisco resident Amy O’Hair has a radio frequency meter and decided to check up on the utility claims. “Remember, the crappy science methods of the utilities mean that they ‘time-average’ the RF–meaning something like if you have a 3-millisecond pulse of 100 microwatts/CM2, followed by 5,997 milliseconds of no RF, they call that 6 seconds of 0.05 microwatts/CM2 of RF energy. When they say the meter only emits ’45 seconds per day’ they don’t tell you that means 15,000 pulses. Only when you yourself measure can you discover the truth behind these shady and dangerous deceptions.”

According to the Youtube video of Amy’s meter readings Smart meters at close range emit 5-40 microwatts of RF radiation per centimeter squared. Standing next to a cell phone tower her readings were about 5 times less. If your apartment is behind the bank of meters for the entire apartment, you are getting bombarded with 30-200 watts/cent sq. according to her meter, and because the pulsing overlaps it is nearly a constant radiation.

Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh reports that, “California’s Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs) has quietly [so that the public won’t realize they can demand a choice] begun replacing Smart Meters with analog meters for citizens reporting adverse health effects. Consumer rights and other groups demanded immediately that their wireless devices be removed from their homes.

“Millions of customers were unhappy with their Smart Meters. They are surveillance devices in homes, without a search warrant, which is a violation of privacy. Health issues ranging from nausea, dizziness, heart palpitations, headaches, tinnitus, insomnia, and radiation exposure associated with powerful wireless devices that transmit information 6-8 per minute constantly, have plagued the stealthy and deceptive installation.”

In addition, she reports that contrary to public utility claims about the meters saving on electric bills, California power bills are now higher than ever.
